FAQ:
What theatre degree programs does the University of Montevallo offer?
We offer the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Theatre, as well as Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Musical Theatre, Acting, and Theatre Design and Technology.
How do I get in?
With the exception of the BFA degrees, students are not required to audition to declare a theatre major. If you are interested in majoring in theatre in the BA or BS degree program, simply apply to the University of Montevallo and declare those majors. If you are interested in majoring in the BFA musical theatre, acting, or design & technology degree programs, auditions and portfolio presentations are required. You can either attend one of our in-person audition/interview dates (November 18, 2023; January 20, 2024; and February 17, 2024) or you can apply virtually. Your BFA degree track audition/interview will also serve as your audition for departmental scholarship consideration.

I’m not interested in a BFA degree track, but I’m very interested in theatre scholarships for majors. How do I apply?
You’re in the right place! If you are interested in the BA or BS degree track, you can apply for departmental assistance by clicking the link below, filling out the form and attending an in-person audition/interview day or submitting your materials virtually. In-person scholarship auditions provide an opportunity to meet faculty and current students, discuss financial aid opportunities, take a campus and theatre facilities tour and get a first-hand “feel” for theatre at Montevallo. Students interested primarily in performance will prepare an audition; prospective design and management students provide a portfolio or sample promptbook for review. All prospective students will have the chance to meet the faculty for a short interview.
Do I have to declare theatre as my major to be considered for a theatre scholarship?
Yes.
I’m a transfer student coming in during my sophomore or junior year. May I audition for a BFA degree track?
Yes. If you are transferring as a sophomore or junior you may audition for the BFA in Musical Theatre or Acting or you can submit a portfolio or stage management promptbook for entrance into the BFA in Design/Technology. The audition or portfolio presentation is for admission into the program and for scholarship consideration.
Please contact Michael Walker at mwalker10@lixubing.com if you have questions about the application.
