  • Cynthia Acosta Gravlee Scholarship For Junior English and World Language Majors

The Cynthia Acosta Gravlee Scholarship was established on March 7, 2006 for rising full-time junior English majors with a minor or double major in World Language or World Language majors with a minor or double major in English.

  • English Merit Scholarship For Incoming Freshmen English Majors

This scholarship, funded by an anonymous donor, provides a $3,500 award for an incoming freshman English major and is renewable for up to four years.

  • Eva O. Golson Scholarship For Senior English Majors

The Eva O. Golson Memorial Scholarship was established in April 1985 to honor Dr. Golson, whose career at the University of Montevallo spanned 46 years. The scholarship was intended to perpetuate the ideals of Dr. Golson: devotion to learning, love of language, commitment to scholarship and compassion for others.

  • Judy Nordan Trotter Memorial Scholarship

To be used for Student Emergency Funds. Awarded by Student Aid.

  • Laurie Ann Cox Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement in English For Juniors

The Laurie Ann Cox Memorial scholarship for Outstanding Achievement in English was established by Katie C. Cox on February 3, 2012 in memory of her daughter Laurie Ann Cox, a student who died in 1986.

  • Melba Griffin Scholarship For Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors

The Melba Griffin Scholarship Endowment was established on June 29, 1998 in accordance with the provisions of the will of Melba Griffin, a 1927 alumna of Alabama College (now University of Montevallo).

  • Sarah G. Palmer Adult Returning Student Scholarship For Adult Returning Students

The Sarah G. Palmer Scholarship for Adult Returning Students was established to honor long-time UM English professor Sarah Palmer upon her retirement in July 2000. The scholarship created in her name is intended to promote her vision of the transformative power of education, especially in the lives of “nontraditional” or “returning” adult students.

  • Southern Progress Scholarship For Senior English Majors

The Southern Progress Scholarship for English was established on April 15, 2002 to provide a scholarship opportunity for English majors.

  • Head-Cleveland Scholarship

The Head/Cleveland Scholarship is awarded annually to students who have demonstrated a commitment to issues of social justice, sustainability, or environmental stewardship.

  • Tim & Ellen Lupinacci Scholarship

The Tim and Ellen Lupinacci Scholarship was established on June 28, 2006 to provide financial assistance for deserving students.

  • Harris Scholarship in English and World Language

The Harris Scholarship in English and World Language was established on June 6, 2003 in memory of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Harris by the estate of Alyce E. Harris.

  • James R. Pass Endowed Scholarship for English Majors

The James R. Pass Endowed Scholarship for English Majors will be awarded annually based on merit to one qualified student at the University of Montevallo. Recipient must have completed the application process and be in good standing with the University. Recipient must be a rising senior who is enrolled full time and majoring in English. Recipient must have the highest percentile grade point average of all applicants in their cohort. Recipient must have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence in the study of English. Any additional criteria needed to select the recipient may be added by the chair of the Department of English and World Languages based on academics and NOT age, sex, gender, race, religion, sexual preference, political affiliation, financial need or other non-academic criteria. The scholarship may be used to pay for tuition, books, and/or fees.
