Summer Invitational featuring works by four Auburn University Professors: Lauren Howard, Lauren Woods, Wendy DesChene and Chuck Hemard. The drawings, paintings, photographs and three-dimensional installations displayed utilize various aspects from the natural world to reflect, comment and critique on a range of issues including: place, identity, class, dance, institutional critique, and the land itself. |

Bryce Lafferty’s landscape drawings emerge as poetic expressions of his wonderment for the natural world. They are almost always based on actual places that he has visited and are the result of an internal process that involves meshing together memories with categorical knowledge, like science, philosophy, or history.

Through deft manipulation, fire, earth, air and water are made as poetic as they are palpable. Here again, the central tool is the crucible; one of history’s most indelible and pervasive icons for actual and symbolic transformation. The pieces in this exhibition evidence the artists both as individuals and as participants in creative dialogue with pieces owing to the shared vision of the group.

Poole Art Gallery 2020-2021
The Art Department is pleased to open the Poole Art Gallery in the new Center for the Arts on campus. Due to Covid-19 safety precautions, no opening receptions will be held this fall, though exhibitions will be open to the UM community following social distancing guidelines. Each exhibition will include a virtual gallery tour, accessible on our website, and our artist gallery talks will be live streamed. Please check back for specific times and dates. Thank you for helping to keep everyone’s health our top priority.

Florida native, Kenny Jensen maintains a deep connection to the state’s unique natural environment. Jensen actively seeks, collects, and re-contextualizes, overlooked, organic phenomena and man-made artifacts.

Ellen Mueller explores issues related to the environment, hyperactive news media and corporate management systems. She creates experiences that engage with social and political issues through a variety of media.
