Ryan Foster

Ryan Foster is an instructor of art in the Foundations Program at the University of Montevallo, where he teaches drawing and 2-D design.

Foster received his Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of South Florida in 2011 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and printmaking from the University of Montevallo in 2006. He worked closely with the virtuoso oil painter Jerry Ford Carter in 2001-2002.

Foster explores a range of issues, including the mystery of existence, spirituality, brokenness, beauty and ugliness through representational oil painting. Recent exhibitions include group shows at Yale University, The Armory in New York City, Art Basel Miami and a solo exhibition at the Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica, California. Ryan lives in Birmingham with his wife, two dogs and cat. His wife and animals contribute by adding inspiration and hair to his paintings.
