The discipline’s usefulness for visual research, problem solving, personal expression, and idea generation prepares each drawing student to be an effective artist. Through our curriculum, students will be introduced to historical and cultural frameworks of drawing, the individual studio practice of drawing, style and aesthetics, and the idea of communication through drawing. They will master a visual vocabulary and learn to draw from observation and experimental processes. Their B.F.A. experience culminates with portfolio class for concentrated personal study.
Drawing Facilities
Drawing classes are taught in both Bloch and Peterson Hall. There are six advanced drawing courses offered on a rotating basis, including Figure Drawing, Materials and Concepts, Series, Color, Illustration, and Large Format drawing.
The recently renovated space in Peterson Hall features natural light from large windows, two drawing classrooms, and semi-private studios for senior B.F.A. students.
