New Adjunct Faculty Orientation

Welcome to the University of Montevallo!

The University of Montevallo community welcomes you as a member of our teaching faculty.  We recognize and value the significant contributions our adjunct instructors make toward our students’ scholastic achievements. It is the collective efforts of our full-time and adjunct faculty that enable UM to maintain our high academic standards and fulfill the University’s mission. The information found in this website will assist you in getting the best possible start in your new vital role at the University.

Getting Started and Required Documents

New adjunct instructors should complete all of the forms and required training on this website prior to beginning work.  It is required that each adjunct instructor meet with a representative from the Office of Human Resources prior to teaching their first class.  The meetings with HR may be held in a group setting or on an individual basis.  Be prepared to turn in all employment forms found on this website and to present original documents to satisfy the Federal I-9 form and E-verify.  All forms, including the I-9, are due no later than the employee’s first day of employment. (Identification documents must be presented within 72 hours of employment.)

Upon meeting with an HR representative, you will be directed to go to the Solution Center on the bottom floor of the Carmichael Library to obtain your permanent University ID.

Prior to the beginning of each semester, all new adjunct instructors are required to contact HR at (205) 665-6055 to schedule an appointment to turn in employment forms found underneath the Employment Forms tab. The procedure for accessing UM email, obtain parking permit and taking the FERPA quiz* can be found underneath the Information Sheets tab. Employment forms must be turned in to HR prior to beginning work/teaching a class.

  • Employment Forms (these forms can be scanned to HR with the exclusion of the I-9 original documents required)
  • Identification Required by Department of Homeland Security (please review acceptable documents on page 9 of the I-9 form – original documents required). The University of Montevallo verifies the identity and work eligibility of each new employee. Know your rights and responsibilities under E-Verify.
  • A voided check or a Direct Deposit Authorization form from your bank to verify bank’s routing number and your bank account number.

*All new adjunct faculty must complete the FERPA quiz before given access to Canvas and assigned a class and students.
